Kurt M. Graham specializes in advising private and public sector employers, including school districts and municipalities, with regulatory compliance issues in order to avoid liability under various state and federal employment laws. He has significant experience representing public and private sector employers in labor relations matters such as negotiation and administration of collective bargaining agreements, grievance arbitrations, union organizing campaigns and elections, and unfair labor practice charges. Kurt has appeared before numerous administrative agencies including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Michigan Department of Civil Rights, U.S. Department of Labor, National Labor Relations Board, Michigan Employee Relations Commission, Teacher Tenure Commission, Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency, and Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth – Wage Hour Division.

In addition to his labor relations experience, Kurt also counsels employers in day-to-day employment law compliance such as drafting employment policies and agreements, wage/hour laws, FMLA/ADA, investigations, employee discipline, and proactively addressing employee issues in order to avoid liability. Kurt also has substantial experience handling MIOSHA/OSHA citation appeals, and counseling employers with respect to MIOSHA/OSHA inspections.

Kurt has lectured on employment and school law topics such as workplace harassment, OSHA/MIOSHA inspections, investigating and documenting employee misconduct, social media in the workplace, wage/hour compliance, the FMLA/ADA, the Michigan Concussion Law, and how to effectively manage in a union environment. He is Chapter Editor of The Developing Labor Law, and a past Contributor to How Arbitration Works. Additionally, he has appeared as a commentator in Michigan Lawyers Weekly. Kurt is a past chair of the Grand Rapids Bar Association – Labor and Employment Section.
