Last night, Governor Whitmer issued Executive Order 2020-57, which is the third expansion of unemployment benefits since the COVID-19 pandemic hit Michigan. EO 2020-57 does the following:
- Expands the work-share program
- Expands unemployment cost-sharing among employers
- Suspends the requirement for individuals seeking to collect unemployment to request a registration and work search waiver from their employer
- Extends unemployment benefits to workers who voluntarily left a job after accepting new employment but were unable to start the new position due to the COVID-19 outbreak
- Allows anyone with an active unemployment claim to receive up to 26 weeks of benefits
